Highlights:
• The Rwanda Ministry of Health reported the following as of October 31st:
o 66 Confirmed Cases
o Two people are in isolation and treatment.
o 15 people have died.
o A total of 49 people has recovered.
o 6,099 people were tested.
o 1,629 doses of vaccine were administered.
• Contact tracing is ongoing, with 1,146 contacts under follow-up as of October 20th.
• The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reports that this outbreak began with fruit bats.
• The World Health Organization (WHO) has continued to provide essential resources to aid in Rwanda’s efforts. This includes the following:
o WHO has worked with the Ministry of Health to train 1,000 health workers and supported six health facilities in Kigali as of October 25th.
o WHO with support from the World Food Programme (WFP) delivered on October 25th at least 30 pieces of specialist medical devices and biomedical equipment to the Rwandan government
o Essential lab extraction kits have been delivered to the National Reference Laboratory on October 30th. These kits strengthen Rwanda’s diagnostic capacity, empowering rapid detection and response.
• The EU announced on October 29th that they have authorized $850,000 Euros for Rwanda. This additional funding will support partners in addressing immediate and critical needs related to coordination, surveillance, advanced case management, training of healthcare workers and provision of supplies.
