Military and Diplomatic Highlights:

·       The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on June 28th that they killed Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa who is one of the founders of Hamas’ military wing.

Gaza Strip Civil Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:

·       As of July 1st, 82% of the population is under evacuation orders.

·       The UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) reported on July 1st that their Jordan warehouse has enough aid to last a month for 200,000 people. This aid is still being blocked by the Israeli government.

·       The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that as of July 2nd, no fuel has entered Gaza for the last 120 days which has severely crippled humanitarian operations.

·       Healthcare and Public Health Update:

o   On June 25th, WHO delivered its first medical shipment into Gaza since March 2nd:

ü  Nine trucks carried essential medical supplies, 2,000 units of blood, and 1,500 units of plasma.

ü  The supplies were transported from Kerem Shalom, without any looting incident, despite the high-risk conditions along the route.

ü  These supplies will be distributed to priority hospitals in the coming days.

ü  The blood and plasma were delivered to Nasser Medical Complex’s cold storage facility for onward distribution to hospitals facing critical shortages.

o   Between June 28 to 29, WHO successfully carried out a high-risk mission, transporting four additional trucks of WHO and partners' essential medical supplies from Kerem Shalom to the warehouse in Gaza for onward distribution to hospitals:

ü  The shipment included urgently needed assistive devices to support patients with mobility challenges, antibiotics, diagnostic kits and supplies, items for trauma and surgical support, and disposable medical items like syringes, gauze, bandage and surgical gowns.

o   WHO has minimal fuel reserves in northern and southern Gaza, which is barely enough to keep 17 partially functional hospitals running for a short time period.

o   On July 2nd, WHO completed a medical evacuation of 23 patients and 46 companions to Jordan and Turkiye:

ü  During the evacuation, strikes near the convoy damaged the bus, ambulances and vehicles transporting these patients and companions. No injuries were reported.

ü  19 of the patients are children.

·       The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) has begun a pilot initiative for families to grow food in their own homes due to the lack of access to farmland.

Violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Highlights:

·       On June 26th the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that Haitham Bassam Abu Issa, a nurse at the PRCS clinic in Deir al-Balah, was killed when an Israeli aircraft targeted a group of civilians in the city. This brings the total number of PRCS staff and volunteers killed during the conflict to 50.

·       The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is the only organization delivering food to two million people from only four distribution sites that are under military control:

o   Before the GHF, there was 400 aid distribution sites operating in Gaza.

o   Amnesty International reported that in less than four weeks, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed and almost 4,000 injured just trying to access or distribute food.

o   Israeli forces and armed groups some reportedly operating with backing from Israeli authorities are routinely opening fire on civilians.

o   On July 1st, over 130 humanitarian organization have called for the restoration of a unified UN-led coordination and distribution system based on international humanitarian law.

·       WHO has documented a total of 734 attacks on healthcare in Gaza.

·       On July 1st, a tent sheltering displaced people in the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Hospital in Gaza was reportedly hit:

o   Five people were injured.

o   The hospital’s internal medicine department also sustained some damage, and its oxygen supply line was affected.
