Global Highlights:
· As of June 30th, the World Health Organization (WHO) is reporting 1,664 cases (1,354 confirmed, 309 suspected & 1 probable) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda and France:
o There are 402 fatalities (401 confirmed & 1 probable).
o 204 people have recovered.
· On June 29th, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), together with the Uganda Ministry of Health (MOH) and partners launched a Continental Incident Management Support Team (IMST):
o The IMST will be based at the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
· On June 27th, WHO and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) has appointed Julien Harris as the Senior Ebola Coordinator. He will coordinate response operations among UN partner agencies.
· On June 28th, the Uganda Ministry of Health, WHO and the Africa CDC launched the Continental Ebola Supply Chain Coordination Mechanism:
o This new regional logistics hub will support affected and at-risk countries by coordinating forecasting, stock visibility, customs clearance, warehousing, transportation and the rapid deployment of lifesaving medical countermeasures.
Democratic Republic of the Congo Highlights:
· A total of 9,968 contacts have been identified with a 81.3% follow-up rate as of June 30th.
· The hospital bed occupancy is at 96.2%.
· As of June 30th, WHO reported that they are supporting DRCs efforts in the Sota health area to bring care closer to communities:
o This includes establishing an Ebola Treatment Centre, reinforcing infection prevention and control measures, and supporting the continuity of essential health services.
· The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reported that as of July 1st, 200 DRC Red Cross Society volunteers are going door to door sharing public health information with residents.
· Logistics and Telecommunications Cluster (LTC) Update:
o On June 26th, the LTC conducted a field assessment which identified unstable mobile networks, limited Wi-Fi coverage, intermittent satellite performance and power supply constraints as key barriers to reliable communications for health workers and responders.
o The LTC has strengthened coordination with intercluster, government, health and IT partners in Kinshasa and Bunia, supporting alignment on response priorities, connectivity gaps, Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan revision requirements, and planned telecoms support.
Uganda Highlights:
· The Uganda MOH as of July 1st, is reporting a total of 831 contacts:
o At this time, there are no active contacts.
· A total of 5,465 travelers have been screened:
o 2,105 were inbound travelers.
o 1,714 were outbound travelers.
· On June 27th, Uganda urged foreign governments not to impose travel restrictions over the Ebola outbreak.
