Highlights:

• On October 3rd an armed group attacked Pont Sondé, in Bas Artibonite, which resulted in the deaths of 100 residents.

• Since October 17th, there have been a series of armed attacks in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, Delmas and Tabarre which has displaced 10,056 people.

• Armed gangs have also damaged road infrastructure (including bridges) by digging trenches on secondary roads leading from Route Nationale 1 to Savien.

• The UN Police Mission and the National Police have been conducting joint operations and have managed to protect residents of several areas, repel gangs, capture weapons and eliminate multiple gang members.

• On October 24th, a marked United Nations Humanitarian Air Service helicopter, carrying 3 crew members and 15 passengers, was hit by gunfire while flying over Port-au-Prince. No one was injured and the helicopter landed safely.

• On October 29th the UN Migration Agency (IOM) reported an escalation of armed violence in Arcahaie, just north of the capital.

• The U.S. State Department still has a Level 4 Travel Advisory (Do Not Travel) in place. This advisory is in place based on the threat of kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and limited health care.

• Displacement Update:

o IOM reports that more than 702,000 people have been displaced since early September:

 This marks a 22% increase since June and a 95% rise since the wave of armed violence in February and March 2024.

 Women make up 54% of the displaced population, and children account for 52%.

o The Dominican Republic announced on October 2nd, that it would expel 10,000 Haitians per week. IOM has recorded more than 7,800 expulsions at three of the four border crossings in less than a week.

• Food Security Update:

o As of October 28th, the World Food Programme (WFP) reported that 5.4 million people are facing acute food insecurity, including over 2 million people facing “emergency” (IPC phase 4) levels.
