Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:

·       There are currently 30.4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in the country:

o   20.9 million are targeted for assistance.

o   18.0 million people have been reprioritized for assistance.

·       Displacement Update:

o   A total of 9.6 million people has been displaced.

o   4.3 million refugees have crossed into neighboring countries.

o   Since the latest attack in El Fasher at the end of October, 19,383 new arrivals have been registered along Chad’s eastern borders.

o   Given the volatile and unpredictable security situation in Darfur, combined with worsening economic hardship and mass displacement, cross-border movements into Chad are expected to continue in the coming weeks.

·       The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on December 30th announced that Sudan has extended humanitarian access through the Adré border crossing with Chad until March 31st.

·       In cooperation with the Sudan Red Crescent Society a convoy from the Egyptian Red Crescent Society arrived at the Ashkit land crossing in the Wadi Halfa locality on January 3rd. The convoy is carrying 70 tons of food supplies, shelter materials, medical consumables, and personal hygiene kits.

·       Healthcare and Public Health Update:

o   There are 72,414 Cholera cases and 2,156 deaths have been reported since January 2025.

o   The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) reported the following activities:

ü  On December 15th, SAPA delivered assistance to displaced families in South Kordofan. This assistance included food, emergency healthcare, psychosocial support, and mobile clinic services.

ü  SAPA on December 25th launched the rehabilitation of the Ibrahim Malik Referral Hospital in Khartoum.

ü  SAPA teams in Gedarfi distributed 71 types of essential medicines and medical supplies to strengthen local healthcare services on December 26th. This assistance reached Hussein Mustafa Teaching Children’s Hospital, the Maternity and Neonatal Hospital, and the Al-Malik and Karari Primary Healthcare Centers.

ü  On December 28th with the support of Islamic Relief, SAPA established the largest oxygen plant in Khartoum. The plant will produce around 120 cylinders per day, four times the capacity of existing plants in the state.

o   The World Health Organization (WHO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Health handed over lab equipment and supplies to seven states to set up public health laboratories, strengthening surveillance and supporting early detection and timely response to outbreak-prone vaccine-preventable diseases.

·       In November, the World Food Programme (WFP) assisted four million people, including 1.2 million in areas identified as facing famine or at risk of famine.

 

Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights:

·       There have been 65 attacks on healthcare, personnel and facilities since January 2025:

o   46 health facilities have been impacted.

o   11 warehouses have been impacted.

o   Less than 25% of health facilities are functioning in the worst affected areas.

·       The Emergency Lawyers Group has identified numerous violations between December 4-18:

o   On December 4th, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched an attack involving shelling and drones on civilian sites in the city of Kaloqi South Kordofan:

ü  Drones targeted three civilian sites injuring dozens of people (mostly children).

ü  Shelling also struck a children's nursery and the Kaloqi Hospital.

o   RSF operated drones on December 6th targeted the main power station in Al Damazin in the Blue Nile. This attack led to a complete interruption of electricity and water in the city.

o   The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) using drones targeted several sites in the Ktila locality in southern Darfur on December 8th:

ü  The targets included the Grand Market and the Ktila and Saihni schools.

ü  This attack resulted in the killing and injuring of dozens of civilians.

ü  These areas were under the control of the RSF.

o   On December 18th, drones targeted the city of Atbara and civilian homes. This attack led to at least one death and the injury of at least four civilians and a power outage in several states.
