Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:
· Displacement continues throughout Sudan. The UN Refugee Agency indicates that over 873,000 people have fled Darfur to Chad.
· The ongoing fighting has also severely constrained humanitarian access and disrupted aid delivery for over two years. With seasonal rains underway, many roads will be impassable for months, further complicating the delivery of aid.
· The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) has reported the following activities between August 3-6:
o A comprehensive mobile clinic was opened at Camp 8 for refugees on August 3rd.
o 369 beneficiaries for cash assistance were registered on August 4th in the Qanab and Olaib locality for individuals affected by floods and rains in the area.
o A targeted environmental sanitation campaign in population gathering areas and water channels were opened on August 6th.
· Public Health and Healthcare Update:
o Since July 2024, there are nearly 100,000 cases of Cholera. There are now outbreaks in every state of the country
o The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) reported on August 1st that their mobile units began providing essential healthcare services in the southern countryside of Omdurman.
o The World Health Organization (WHO) reported on August 7th that in anticipation of seasonal rains and flooding have prepositioned some medical supplies. These efforts are being stymied by lack of access and funding.
· Food Security Update:
o World Food Programme (WFP) assistance has helped reduce the risk of famine in six areas of Central Darfur and two in West Darfur.
o As of August 1st, WFP has received clearances from Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission in Port Sudan for a convoy of humanitarian assistance to proceed to El Fasher.
· Only 23% of the humanitarian plan for the country is currently funded.
Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights:
· The Emergency Lawyers documented on August 2nd that the RSF killed civilians as they attempted to flee El Fasher. On August 6th, the Humanitarian Research Lab published a report on this siege.
· On August 9th, RSF killed 18 civilians in the villages of Murkez Al-Ziyadiya and Lamina Al-Ziyadiya in North Kordofan. The RSF forces also injured dozens of people, looted properties and abducted several children.
