Spokane County Wildfires Situation Report #1

Highlights:

· There are two active fires in Spokane County, they are:

o Gray Fire: 10,014 acres and is 25% contained:

ü The cause of this fire is undetermined.

ü The fire is threatening 850 homes and a total of 185 structures have been destroyed.

ü A total of 565 personnel is assigned to this fire.

ü The resources assigned include 11 crews and 75 engines.

o Oregon Road Fire: 11,036 acres and is 0% contained:

ü The cause of this fire is undetermined.

ü The fire is threatening 1,000 homes and has damaged 12 structures and destroyed 80 structures.

ü A total of 463 personnel is assigned to this fire.

ü The resources assigned include 13 crews and 38 engines.

· There are also seven other smaller fires burning in Spokane currently.

· The Washington Department of Natural Resources is advising individuals not to fly drones near these fires.

· There are now two confirmed fatalities.

· There are currently two shelters open with a population of 189 people.

· The evacuation order for Medical Lake has been reduced which allows between 4,000 to 5,000 people to return to their homes.

· A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for Medical Lake.

· Cellaular communications remains limited in the affected areas due to damage to cellular towers.

· State Response Updates:

o The Washington State Emergency Operations Center is fully activated and the Governor has declared a State of Emergency.

o On August 21st, the Washington National Guard deployed four helicopters and 30 personnel to support firefighting efforts in Deer Park.

o The Washington State Department of Transportation reports that Interstate 90 has been reopened in both directions.

· Federal Response Updates:

o A Fire Management Assistance Grant was approved on August 19th.

o The Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 10 Response Coordination Center is activated to Level 3.

o An Incident Management Assistance Team and a FEMA Liaison Officer have been deployed.
