Southern California Wildfires Situation Report #8

Highlights:
· There remain two fires of concern in Southern California, which are:
o Palisades Fire (Los Angeles County): 23,448 acres and is 87% contained.
ü The National Weather Service is forecasting that there is an increased risk of heavier rain rates and/or thunderstorms for many areas south of Point Conception, particularly Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.
o Border 2 Fire (San Diego County): 6,625 acres and 10% contained.
· Evacuation Orders:
o Mandatory evacuation orders remain in place for 26,000 people for the Palisades Fire.
o As of January 25th, evacuation orders have been put in place for areas affected by the Border 2 Fire.
· Shelter Update:
o Los Angeles County: Five emergency shelters and 12 animal shelters remain open.
o San Diego County: One emergency shelter has been opened.
· The fires in Los Angeles County have killed 28 people.
· A total of 16,240 structures have been destroyed in Los Angeles County.
· Resources:
o Palisades Fire: 1,859 personnel, 19 helicopters, 151 Engines, 11 Water Tenders, and 12 Crews.
o Border 2 Fire: 2,413 Personnel, 17 Helicopters, 145 Engines, 18 Dozers, 17 Water Tenders and 82 Crews.
· Due to the recent wildfires and resulting burn scars, portions of Los Angeles County are at high risk for mud and rockslides. Heavy rainfall, which is forecasted for the area, may exacerbate these conditions, leading to potentially life-threatening situations.
