Highlights:
• The following fires are active in Los Angeles County:
o Palisades Fire: 23,713 acres and is 43% contained.
o Eaton Fire: 14,117 acres and is 73% contained.
• Fire Resources:
o Palisades Fire: 5,478 personnel, 44 Helicopters, 554 Engines, 53 Dozers, 58 Water Tenders and 113 Crews.
o Eaton Fire: 2,782 Personnel, 13 Helicopters, 243 Engines, 14 Dozers, 50 Water Tenders and 43 Crews.
o A total of 23 State and/or Regional Urban Search and Rescue Teams have been deployed. As of January 17th, these teams have searched 8,818 structures and covered 1,100 miles in grid search patterns on the Eaton Fire.
• The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed 27 deaths. However, search and recovery efforts are still ongoing in the affected areas.
• 75,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders.
• Mass Care and Shelter Update:
o Six shelters are open with at least 542 occupants.
o The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Volunteer Emergency Services Team and Functional Assessment Service Team have been deployed to the Pasadena Convention Center shelter.
o 11 animal shelters remain open.
o 211 Los Angeles has partnered with Hilton and Partners to provide hotel vouchers for affected residents. Individuals can apply here.
o As of January 15th, the American Red Cross has deployed more than 400 personnel to assist survivors.
o N95 masks are still being distributed (while supplies last) at Los Angeles County Libraries.
o World Central Kitchen (WCK) Update:
Free meals for first responders and community members are available at several locations.
WCK has partnered with Hard Rock to serve meals at three special events.
• Healthcare and Public Health Updates:
o A total of 18 healthcare facilities have been evacuated.
o Nine health centers are closed.
o A total of five dialysis centers are closed due to existing mandatory evacuation orders.
• Returning residents to their homes is a high priority. Allowing re-entry relies on the following being accomplished:
o Assessing structure damage.
o Clearing debris and hazardous materials.
o Restoring utilities and ensuring infrastructure safety.
o Securing approval from City, State, and Federal officials.
• California is moving into Phase 1 debris removal operations inside the Eaton Fire perimeter.
• Damage Assessments:
o Palisades Fire: 628 structures damaged and 3,857 structures destroyed.
o Eaton Fire: 972 structures damaged and 8,988 structures destroyed.
o Damage assessments are still ongoing.
• The California Department of Transportation is using drones to map affected areas. The data collected will help identify areas at risk of rockfall, debris fall and flooding.
• As of January 16th, the Emergency Management Assistance Compact has deployed 858 personnel from eight states.
• Power outages continue to trend downwards and remain below 1% across the affected areas.
