Russian Invasion of Ukraine Situation Report #102




Military and Diplomatic Highlights: 

·         The Ukrainian military is reporting the following Russian losses:

o   491,350 Soldiers (Wounded or Killed)

o   6,476 Tanks

o   12,145 Armored vehicles

o   9,669 Artillery

o   7.413 Drones

o   335 Aircraft

o   325 Helicopters

o   1,896 Cruise missiles

o   25 Ships

·         International Assistance Update:

o   Germany in the most recent military aid package will provide the following:

ü  18 Armored Personnel Carriers

ü  3 WISENT 1 mine clearing tanks

ü  1 DACHS armored engineer vehicles

ü  9 mine ploughs

ü  10 VECTOR reconnaissance drones with spare parts

ü  30 RQ-35 HEIDRUN reconnaissance drones

ü  11 Primoco ONE reconnaissance drones

ü  7 SONGBIRD reconnaissance drones

ü  4 border protection vehicles

ü  4,000 rounds 155mm ammunition

ü  500 LED lamps

ü  IT equipment

o   Germany is also providing the following through a short-term support package worth over 100 million Euros:

ü  Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles

ü  Ammunition to arm small drones.

ü  77 MULTI 1A1 trucks

ü  Medical supplies

ü  Spare parts packages for various weapon systems

o   Spain has also announced a new military aid package which includes:

ü  M-113 Armored Personnel Carriers

ü  2 M-113 APCs transformed into ambulances.

ü  Firefighting vehicles

ü  Snow plowing vehicles.

ü  Personnel transport vehicles

ü  2 light boats

ü  Electric generator

ü  Water purification plant

ü  Weapons for anti-aircraft defense, air-to-air, and naval operations.

o   The United Kingdom (UK) will co-lead a drone coalition within the framework of Ukraine Defense Contact Group. The UK also committed to 200 million Pounds to manufacture and procure drones.

o   Australia has agreed to contribute 50 million Australian dollars to the International Fund for Ukraine.  This fund was established to support the procurement of priority military capabilities.

o   Latvia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Estonia, Germany, Lithuania, and Sweden will help Ukraine by delivering drones, testing equipment, and training soldiers.  This group’s goal is to provide Ukraine with one million drones. 

o   Canada has announced a $60 million contribution to support the setup of a sustainable F-16 fighter aircraft capability.

·         The International Atomic Energy Agency is continuing to closely monitor the staffing situation at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.

 

War and Atrocity Crimes Investigations Highlights: 

·         The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine reported that between February 9-16, 580 new war crimes were registered. 

·         On February 14, the Prosecutor General's Office issued the first suspicion notice for the crime of ecocide, along with the crime of aggression and war crimes, to the Russian Colonel General and four of his subordinates:

o   They are allegedly responsible for shelling the Neutron Source research facility in Kharkiv.

o   In 2022, 74 strikes on this nuclear facility have been committed with various weapon types, including aerial bombs and cluster munitions.

·         The International Commission on Missing Persons on February 15th, donated AB 3500 genetic analyzers to Ukraine's State Scientific Research Forensic Center to support efforts to account for missing persons as a result of the Russian invasion.

·         The World Health Organization (WHO) has verified 1,573 attacks on healthcare since February 24, 2022.

 

Humanitarian Impact and Response and Recovery Highlights:

·         The Ukraine Red Cross has continued to distribute food parcels from the World Food Programme in Kerson.  As of February 12th, they have distributed more than 3,4000 food parcels.

·         A new wave of Russian attacks across Ukraine on February 15th, compounded by hostilities along the front line over the last few days, has caused more civilian deaths and injuries and disrupted critical services for hundreds of thousands of people.

·         As temperatures remain below zero in many places, thousands of customers were left without critical services, including electricity and heating, because of attacks impacting energy facilities:

o   Between February 12-13, electrical power was disrupted for some 30,000 customers and 10,000 families were reported without water supply in Dnipropetrovska Oblast.

o   Even though the electricity supply was promptly restored, the Ministry of Energy reported significant damage to the energy equipment, which has potential consequences for further disruption of services.

·         On February 16th, UN agencies delivered seven tons of relief supplies for people in the front-line Huliapole Community in the Zaporizhzhia Region.

·         The European Union is seeking donations from the private and public sectors.  Currently, they are seeking:

o   Energy supplies

o   Medicine

o   Shelter equipment

 

Russian Dis-information Campaign Highlights:

·         Russia has falsely claimed that YouTube has arbitrarily blocked Russian State Media on their platform. 

·         Belarus and Russia has been attempting to re-write history to indoctrinate young people. 

 

Cultural Heritage Protection Highlights:

·         The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has verified that as of February 7th, there have been 341 cultural heritage sites damaged.  This includes:

o   126 Religious sites

o   150 Buildings of historical and/or artistic interest

o   31 Museums

o   19 Monuments

o   14 Libraries

o   1 Archive
