Nationwide Highlights:
· The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a total of 800 cases nationwide as of April 17th:
o These cases are being reported in 25 jurisdictions.
o Most of the people infected (38%) are between ages five and 19.
o 96% of the people infected were unvaccinated.
o 11% of the cases required hospitalization.
Texas Highlights:
· The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting 597 cases:
o There are 36 new cases since April 15th.
o A majority of the patients (219) were between the ages of five and 17 years old.
o 575 of the cases were either unvaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown.
o 62 of the patients have been hospitalized.
· Vaccines are available from health providers and pharmacies or through the Texas Vaccines for Children and Adult Safety Net Providers.
New Mexico Highlights:
· There is now a total of 63 cases:
o A total of 59 cases were reported in Lea County.
o 27 of the cases were adults who are 18 years and older.
o 46 of the cases were unvaccinated.
· On April 15th, an unvaccinated child was infected in Dona Ana County:
o This was the first case in the county.
o The New Mexico Department of Health provided information on where this child visited in the event other unvaccinated people were exposed. Details are available here.
Oklahoma, Kansas and Indiana Highlights:
· The Oklahoma Department of Health is reporting 12 cases (9 confirmed and 2 probable). All of these individuals were unvaccinated.
· The Kansas Division of Public Health reported 37 cases in eight counties. One person required hospitalization.
· Indiana Department of Health is reported six cases all in Allen County.
· The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is reporting eight cases in three counties.
