Nationwide Highlights:
· The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 1,001 confirmed cases in 31 jurisdictions:
o 3% of the cases occurred in children ages 5 to 17.
o 96% of the people infected had an unknown or unvaccinated status.
o 13% of the cases required hospitalization.
Texas Highlights:
· There have been 709 confirmed cases:
o There was an increase of seven cases since the May 6th update.
o 679 people had an unknown or unvaccinated status.
o 92 people required hospitalization.
New Mexico Highlights:
· There have been 71 cases:
o On May 7th the first case of measles in Curry County has been confirmed. This case involved an infant who was too young to be vaccinated.
o A majority of these cases (32) involved individuals who were 18 years or older.
o Most of those infected (62 people) had an unknown or unvaccinated status.
Oklahoma and Kansas Highlights:
· Oklahoma is now reported that they have had 17 cases (14 confirmed and 3 probable):
o The median age of people infected is 21 years old.
o 15 people were unvaccinated.
· Kansas has reported 48 cases. Most of those infected (24 cases) have occurred in children (5-17 years old).
