Military and Diplomatic Highlights:  

 

Iran

·       The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has launched aerial attacks on Iran’s military infrastructure and nuclear facilities:

o   The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Air Force command center was targeted and destroyed killing several senior officials to include:

ü  Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the IRGCs Air Force

ü  Davoud Shaykhian, Commander of the IRGCs UAV Force

o   Nuclear and Military Targets:

ü  The Natanz Uranium Enrichment Site’s underground facilities were damaged.

ü  Air defense installation, IRGC leadership residences and government facilities have been targeted in Tehran.

ü  There was also attempted strike on Ali Hosseini Khamenei's compound in Tehran.

ü  In Shiraz, missile production infrastructure and command nodes were targeted.

ü  A major military airport in Tabriz was destroyed and a drone operations hub was reportedly disabled.

ü  Military logistics nodes and IRGC storage facilities in Ahvaz were struck.

ü  An alleged missile depot and IRGC coordination hub impacted in Khorramabad.

ü  The Kermanshah UAV storage and launch infrastructure was damaged.

·       The U.S. State Department reported that Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization has closed the country’s airspace until further notice. U.S. citizens are advised not to travel to Iran for any reason and if they are already in the country they should leave immediately and if are unable to do so to shelter in place. 

 

Yemen

·       On June 10th, the Israeli Navy targeted Houthi’s infrastructure at the Hudaydah Port. The port was targeted according to the IDF because it was used to transfer weapons.

 

Gaza

·       On June 7th, the IDF killed As'ad Abu Sharaiya and Mahmoud Muhammad Hamid Kuhail, who were members of the Mujahideen terrorist organization. They both participated in the October 7th attack.

·       On June 12th, the UN General Assembly adopted (149 in favor) a resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire.

 

Civil Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:

 

Israel

·       Due to the military strikes on Iran, the Magen David Adom has deployed teams nationwide.

·       Iran has launched a retaliatory ballistic missile attack against Israel. Air warning sirens have been activated throughout the country.

 

Gaza

·       The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is reporting that 81% of the Gaza Strip is now within the Israeli militarized zone and/or under evacuation orders.

·       It is estimated that over 632,700 people have been displaced. However, the Israeli government has not allowed shelter supplies to enter Gaza.

·       On May 28th the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) stated that a new militarized distribution system has been launched and led by the American Civil Organization (GHF):

o   This group does not align with humanitarian principles, which puts people at risk, and it will not meet their needs.

o   The UN has called for an investigation into the killing of Palestinians trying to access aid through this new system.

·       Healthcare and Public Health Updates:

o   Only 38% of 564 health service points across Gaza are partially functional, with only one medical point partially functional in North Gaza.

o   Save the Children is reporting that children are waking up during surgeries due to the lack of anesthetic caused by the siege imposed by the Government of Israel.

o   WHO Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Update:

ü  26 organizations have deployed a total of 51 international and 2 national EMTs

ü  Currently, 26 international and 2 national EMTs are in Gaza

ü  Nearly 3 million consultations were delivered since the beginning of the response.

ü  In May, EMTs faced a 44% denial of entry rate.

ü  Medical supplies and personnel are routinely blocked and movement restrictions are limiting lifesaving care.

o   On June 1st, the World Health Organization (WHO) transferred 39 people (patients and staff) from the Indonesian Hospital to Al-Shifa Hospital due to escalating insecurity and hostilities in the area. However, the Indonesian Hospital remains nonfunctional.

o   The Noura Al-Kaabi Dialysis Center as of June 3rd has been destroyed. This facility was serving 40 dialysis patients per week in Northern Gaza.

o   On June 10th, WHO reached the Nasser Medical Complex which is the last remaining hospital in Khan Younis:

ü  The hospital is overwhelmed and at high-risk of closure.

ü  The Intensive Care Unit recently expanded from 20 to 42 beds.

ü  Nasser is the only remaining health facility in the area capable of providing dialysis for up to 350 patients.

ü  Fuel is running low and oxygen plants require urgent maintenance.

ü  Many essential medicines and medical supplies have run out.

ü  Blood units are depleted.

ü  Food for patients and staff is critically scarce.

o   On June 11th, 16 child patients and 48 companions were evacuated to Jordan to receive specialized medical care. WHO reports that more than 10,000 patients are still in need of lifesaving medical evacuations.

·       Water and Food Security Update:

o   As of May 31st, since the limited resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza on May 19th, the World Food Programme (WFP) moved 590 trucks from Ashdod to Kerem Shalom, of which 371 were collected inside Gaza. Only one-third reached their destination. The remainder were subject to offloading between Kerem Shalom and their destination, mostly by hungry civilians in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, but also in some cases by armed criminals.

o   WFP has more than 130,000 metric tons of food ready to be delivered into Gaza and a functioning delivery network ready to provide assistance to up to 2 million people.

o   On June 4th, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) launched an emergency campaign to provide desalinated water to the most vulnerable populations:

ü  100,000 liters have been so far distributed in the Gaza and Middle Governorates.

ü  This campaign’s goal is to reach one million liters for those most at risk.

o   On June 5th, the EU in partnership with the UN Children’s Fund shipped 6,000 cartons of ready-to-use therapeutic food to meet the urgent nutrition needs of children in Gaza.

·       As of June 10th, internet and phone service has been cut off due to strikes on telecommunication infrastructure. 

 

Violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Highlights (Gaza Strip):

 

Israel

·       The IDF reports that 56 people are still be held hostage in Gaza.

·       On June 5th, the IDF recovered the bodies of Judi and Gad Haggai, who were held hostage for 608 days in Gaza.

·       On June 11th, the body of Yair Yaakov, as well as the body of another hostage, who were held hostage for 613 days have been recovered.

 

Gaza

·       As of June 5th, there have been over 700 attacks on healthcare.

·       On May 28th, the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees reported that the remains of one of their staff members was discovered near a mass grave, alongside the human remains of the PRCS humanitarian workers killed by the Israeli Forces.

 

West Bank

·       OCHA reported that between May 27 to June 2 they documented the demolition of 23 Palestinian-owned structures.

·       As of June 5th, OCHA reported that there have been more intimidation and threats of violence against herders.
