Military and Diplomatic Highlights:

·         The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on June 3rd, 30 projectiles and two drones were launched against Northern Israel.

·         The Israel Air Force (IAF) killed a Hezbollah operative in Naqoura and struck military infrastructure in Hanine and several military compounds used by the Hezbollah Aerial Defense Array in Qotrani in southern Lebanon.

·         On June 2nd, 15 projectiles were fired from Lebanon toward multiple areas in northern Israel.  In response, IAF fighter jets struck a Hezbollah military structure in Houla. Additionally, IDF aircraft identified and struck a Hezbollah weapons storage facility.

Civil Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:

·         As of May 26th, the estimated number of people displaced from Rafah is nearly 1 million people since May 6th, with a further 100,000 people displaced in northern Gaza.

·         Most UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) shelters in Rafah have been vacated, with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) moving to Khan Younis and Deir Al Balah. According to Oxfam, more than two-thirds of Gaza’s population are now estimated to be in a 69 square kilometer area (less than a fifth of the Gaza Strip).

·         On June 1, the IDF ordered residents of two blocs (7,284 people) in Beit Hanoun (Northern Gaza) to evacuate to the area west of Gaza city.

·         The current Israeli military operation in Rafah is directly impacting the ability of aid agencies to bring critical humanitarian supplies into Gaza as well as the ability to rotate critical humanitarian staff.

·         UNRWA has maintained a presence in Rafah with a focus on continuing missions to Kerem Shalom to retrieve fuel and aid commodities:

o   Between May 38 to June 1, only 232 trucks of humanitarian aid entered via Kerem Shalom, a significant reduction in aid entering prior to the Rafah military operation.

·         As of June 5th, the U.S. Department of Defense reported that repairs of the temporary pier remain ongoing and should be completed by the end of the week.

·         Healthcare and Public Health Update:

o   As of June 3rd, there are 15 partially functional hospitals and five field hospitals, including two that are partially functional and three that are fully functional.

o   In Northern Gaza, the Kamal Adwan Hospital had resumed partial functionality and access to Al Awda Hospital has now been restored.

o   In late May, Al Awda became inaccessible due to the intensification of hostilities while 14 health workers, 11 patients and two mothers accompanying their children remained inside the facility.

o   The Indonesian Hospital is still out of service and the hospital has recently been impacted by shelling.

o   On June 1st, the Al-Helal Al-Emirati hospital, which was the last functional hospital in Rafah went out of service on May 30.

o   In Rafah, only one field hospital remains partially functional, but it is currently inaccessible due to hostilities in the vicinity and can only provide basic services to patients inside.

o   Two field hospitals are functional in Rafah's coastal area (Al-Mawasi) but they are extremely overwhelmed given the scale of needs.

·         Food Security Update:

o   The World Food Programme (WFP) is currently able to reach only 27,000 people with hot meals in Rafah, nowhere near what is required.

o   Six bakeries remain functional in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, while those in Rafah have ceased operations due to the lack of fuel.

o   The treatment of more than 3,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition is at risk of interruption if nutrition supplies are not distributed.

·         Aid operations in Gaza continue to be affected by disruptions to the telecommunications network, with internet service providers unable to carry out significant repair works.

Violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Highlights:

·         As of June 3rd, it is estimated that 125 hostages are still being held in Gaza by Hamas.

·         The World Health Organization (WHO) as of October 7th has documented 464 attacks on health care in the Gaza Strip:

o   These attacks have resulted in 727 fatalities and 933 people injured.

o   A total of 101 healthcare facilities and 113 ambulances have been affected.

·         On June 6th, the IDF attacked a UNRWA school turned shelter in Nuseirat (Middle Areas):

o   The shelter was housing 6,000 people at the time of the attack.

o   This attack killed nine Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists.

o   The UNRWA reports that at least 35 people were killed, and an unknown number were injured.

o   Before the strike, the IDF stated that they took several steps to lessen the impact of this strike.  This included conducting aerial surveillance and additional intelligence information.

·         On June 4th, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that the IDF caused significant destruction of the PRCS medical point inside the UNRWA clinic in Jabalia.

·         On June 6th, the IDF fired on a PRCS team that were transporting fatalities from the eastern neighborhood of Jenin.

·         The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on June 5th, over 500 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in the West Bank:

o   There have been over 940 attacks by Israeli settlers.

o   Israeli authorities tore down, confiscated or forced owners to demolish over 900 Palestinian structures.
