Highlights:
· Between January and May 2025, 2,700 people were killed in gang related violence.
· There have been 3,800 Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases reported between January and May 2025. Between April and May, there more than 41% increase in these cases.
· On July 3rd, armed groups orchestrated an attack in the Lascahobas region:
o This escalation of violence intensified the humanitarian crisis in the Centre department, particularly in the Bas Plateau region.
o Lascahobas had approximately 7,455 displaced people, following the armed violence that began in April in the Centre department.
o The localities of Desvarieux, Chambrun and Sarrazins were directly affected, causing panic among the local population.
o Faced with these attacks, many residents fled their homes seeking refuge in surrounding areas, particularly in other municipalities in the department.
o The latter already housed approximately 37,000 displaced people, respectively 10,000 in Hinche and approximately 27,000 in Belladère.
· In Haiti there are 1.3 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
· Currently, there are 5.7 million food insecure people which is over 50% of the country’s population.
· The UN and its partners have targeted 3.9 million people to receive assistance. To accomplish this, $908.2 million is needed but there is currently 8% funding coverage.
· The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is concerned about the country’s vulnerable to this year’s hurricane season:
o There are 230,000 IDPs in makeshift shelters through the country.
o Contingency stocks are at their lowest level ever, this includes no pre-positioned food.
· On June 27th the World Food Programme in collaboration with a local partner they distributed 97 metric tons of food to over 13,850 vulnerable and displaced people in Kenscoff.
