Venezuela Earthquakes Situation Report #9
Highlights:
· There have been 6,125 fatalities and 16,740 injured as of August 3rd.
· A total of 60,992 people has received care at hospitals.
· The national government has reported that 16.51% of the total debris has been cleared.
· The government response continues to focus on assisting affected populations and managing temporary displacement sites.
· There are 107 temporary camps that are operational with a capacity of 28,233 people and a current occupancy of 24,477 people as of July 26th.
· Nearly 212,000 people have accesses essential services and humanitarian assistance as of August 6th.
· Healthcare and Public Health Update:
o The Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) priorities center on sustaining essential health services, strengthening referral pathways, and supporting temporary camps, while preventing public health risks and ensuring the continuous, needs-based supply of medicines and essential equipment.
o A total of 30,638 vaccine doses have been administered.
o PAHO has continued supporting the response with critical medicines and equipment:
ü The latest delivery equipped four health facilities in La Guaira, extending primary care to 40,000 people.
· As of August 5th, the Venezuelan Red Cross has maintained two active water purification points in La Guaira.
· The European Union through the Humanitarian Air Bridge has delivered 214 tons of aid:
o As of August 4th, the fifth flight landed in the capitol delivering 43 tons of medical, shelter and health items.
· Through the Internet for Communities solution, GNetwork’s fibre internet connection will remain free for all users at Polideportivo, César Nieves, and a third site until the end of the year or until the emergency ends.
· A preliminary assessment by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction estimates direct damage to housing and infrastructure at approximately $37 billion, while preliminary estimates from UN Development Programme place direct physical damages at $6.7 billion (equivalent of 6% of the GDP).
