Türkiye/Syria Earthquake Situation Report #7

Türkiye Highlights: · The government is reporting 36,100 fatalities. · A total of 216,347 people has been evacuated from the affected areas. · The Turkish Red Crescent is reporting the following (as of February 16th): o A total of 1,160 staff and 4,440 volunteers have been deployed. o 86 Mobile Catering Units, 38 Mobile Ovens, 352 Mobile Kitchens and 22 Field Kitchens are deployed. o They have distributed the following commodities in the affected areas: ü 19.2 million Bottles of Water ü 31.2 million Hot Meals ü 14.4 million Ready-to-eat Packages · International Support Update: o The World Health Organization (WHO) is overseeing the work of 29 Emergency Medical Teams from 22 countries. o Search and Rescue Update: ü A total of 130 Urban Search and Rescue Teams with 5,377 personnel are actively conducting searches. ü 6 teams are in-route and 130 teams have been demobilized. ü A total of 244 live rescues have been completed. o The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is working with the government to determine the next steps in rehabilitating the agriculture-sector infrastructure (irrigation systems, roads, markets, and storage capacity) that was damaged. o European Union Update ü A total of 2,000 tents and 8,000 beds have been deployed through the rescEU reserve. ü 500 relief housing units with 2,500 beds are being deployed. Syrian Highlights: · There are now more than 4,400 fatalities and 8,100 injuries as of February 15th. · More than 9,000 buildings have been completely or partially destroyed rendering at least 11,000 people homeless. · The Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets) is reporting the following: o On February 15th, search and rescue operations ended in the affected areas and they have transitioned to supporting shelter operations and recovery. o White Helmets teams are also clearing debris from homes and have reopened roads in the villages of Meles and Azmarin. o The U.S. Agency for International Development is providing the White Helmets with an additional $5 million to assist with rescue equipment, fuel for life-saving operations, and crucial support for ambulance networks to connect people with emergency health care services. · The Syrian Red Crescent has received another 513.2 tons of mostly food aid from their international partners. · The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is reporting the following: o The northwest Syria resident population is 4.5 million people, a total of 4.1 million people is in need. o There are 3.3 million people who are food insecure. o There are now 2.9 million Internally Displaced Persons. An estimated 1.8 million are living in camps. o Since February 6th, 178 trucks with aid from six UN agencies have passed through the Bab al-Hawa and Bab al-Salam border crossings. · Healthcare and Public Health Updates: o The large number of casualties is continuing to overwhelm the hospitals that are still functioning and depleting their limited supply of medical, surgical, and intensive care unit beds. o At least 52 health facilities have been damaged and three health facilities have been destroyed. o The Health Cluster is reporting that dialysis centers are suffering from severe shortages of medical supplies and dialysis materials to treat kidney patients. o The Health Cluster is working to establish temporary medical health facilities, deploying teams and provide mental health and psychosocial support. o As of February 14th, more than 47,700 suspected cholera cases have been reported, the majority of whom are children (4 years old or younger). o More than 4,800 women and men, including people with disabilities, received medical consultations and lifesaving health services in Idleb and Aleppo in the last 24 hours. o The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is reporting the following: ü A mobile clinic was deployed to a shelter camp to provide basic health services as well as free medications. ü SAMS has increased the capacity of the intensive care department in the Idlib Hospital, by adding 21 beds and additional dialysis services. · Food Security Update: o The FAO is conducting rapid assessments in the affected areas to determine the damage to livestock, agricultural equipment, and infrastructure (greenhouses, irrigation, storage facilities) and food and feed production facilities. o FAO requires $10 million to reach 300,000 people in need over the next three months with cash, livestock assistance and agricultural support to secure a summer crop. o The World Food Programme (WFP) requires a minimum of $413 million to assist survivors. Without sufficient resources, WFP will be forced to dramatically reduce up to 70% of the people it assists in Syria from July onwards.
