Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:

·       8.8 million people have been internally displaced and 3.3 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries.

·       There are currently 30.4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, of whom 20.9 million will be targeted for assistance through the 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan.

·       Healthcare and Public Health Update:

o   Less than 25% of healthcare facilities are functioning in the worst affected areas.

o   The Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) reported on February 3rd that a medical team is continuing field visits in Madani, ElGezira State:

ü  This team has conducted an inspection tour covering hospitals and national medical centers to assess the damage caused by the war and identify essential healthcare needs.

ü  These efforts are being carried out with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

o   The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Sudan reported on February 3rd that they delivered 30 emergency medical kits to Tina Hospital in North Darfur.  These kits are capable of treating 1,000 trauma patients.

o   WHO on February 1st launched temporary mobile clinics in just one week. These clinics have so far treated at least 5,600 people.

o   As of February 10th, WHO reports multiple disease outbreaks including cholera, which has infected over 53,267 people and caused 1,423 deaths in 12 states.

·       Food Security Update:

o   Famine has been confirmed in five locations throughout the country.

o   24.6 million people are currently facing high levels of acute food insecurity.

o   637,000 people are currently facing catastrophic food insecurity.

·       On February 4th, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society distributed cash assistance funded by the German Red Cross to 1,700 families. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights:

·       The UN Refugee Agency on January 31 was prevented from delivering humanitarian aid by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to the Zamzam camp which is experiencing famine.

·       The Youth Citizens Observers Network provided details on the February 1st Sabreen Market Massacre in the Khartoum State:

o   The RSF attacked the market via artillery shelling, which resulted in at least 116 fatalities and 154 people injured.

o   This market is one of the busiest and most crowded markets in Omdurman.

·       The Humanitarian Research Lab on February 4th released a report on RSFs attack on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk Internally Displaced Persons camps and the destruction of more than 20 communities near the Golo Reservoir and Abu Zeriga.

·       WHO reports that just this year, there have been 13 verified attacks on healthcare that led to 79 fatalities and 59 people injured.
