Highlights:
• Starting on January 7th, a series of wildfires were reported in Los Angeles County. The three major fires are:
o Palisades Fire: 15,832 acres and 0% contained.
o Eaton Fire: 10,600 acres and 0% contained.
o Hurst Fire: 700 acres and 0% contained.
• The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire) is monitoring two smaller fires (Woodley and Tyler Fires).
• The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles reported that critical fire weather will last through Friday for portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Gusty winds and very dry conditions will continue to fuel fire starts and existing fires.
• Over the past two days the NWS recorded the following high wind gusts:
o Mt Lukens Truck Trail: 100 MPH
o Magic Mtn Truck Trail: 90 MPH
o Saddle Peak: 98 MPH
o Hollywood-Burbank Airport: 84 MPH
o Eaton Cyn: 70 MPH
• Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for at least 73,000 people.
• Currently, a minimum of 48,050 homes are threatened and 300 homes have been destroyed by the Palisades Fire.
• Fire Resource Assignments:
o Palisades Fire: 836 personnel, 7 Helicopters, 149 Engines, 4 Dozers and 4 Water Tenders.
o Eaton Fire: 702 personnel, 79 Engines, 8 Dozers and 2 Water Tenders.
o Hurst Fire: The Los Angeles Fire Department has requested that all off-duty personnel call the Department Operations Center with their availability for recall.
• Shelter Status:
o Four general population shelters are open with a combined population of 496 people.
o 22 animal shelters are currently open.
• Healthcare and Public Health Update:
o The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued an unhealthy air quality alert due to smoke impacts from the Palisades Fire.
o Two California Department of Social Services facilities have been evacuated due to the Palisade Fire.
o Three healthcare facilities as of 2:30pm were in the process of being evacuated due to the Eaton Fire.
• There are at least 388,000 customers without power in Southern California:
o The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is tracking power outages via this map.
• Art and Cultural Update:
o The La Brea Tar Pits & Museum and the Natural History Museum of LA County out of an abundance of caution closed today.
o The LA County Arboretum has closed due to the high winds.
o Out of an abundance of caution and to help alleviate traffic in the area, the Getty Center in Brentwood will be closed until at least January 13th.
• The Governor has declared a State of Emergency for Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
• The California State Operations Center is partially activated (dayshift only).
• On January 8th, the Emergency Management Assistance Compact was activated to provide mutual aid support to California.
• Federal Response Update:
o The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 9 Administrator has approved Fire Management Assistance Grants for the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst Fires.
o The FEMA Region 9 Response Coordination Center is activated to Level 3.
o A FEMA Incident Management Assistance Team is being deployed to the State Operations Center.
o The FEMA Field Operations Division is deploying a Personnel Mobilization Center light package to Oakland, CA on January 9th.
