Highlights:

· The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported as of August 27^th that there are 157 confirmed deaths and at least 245 people are reported as missing. These numbers are expected to increase.

· A significant number of tourists and trekkers are also unaccounted for in the affected areas. This includes both foreign nationals and Nepali citizens.

· The Pacific Disaster Center published an early analysis of the flooding impact:

o The estimated population that has been exposed is 43,500 people. This includes 8,830 vulnerable individuals.

o The affected population will require 18.5 million calories and 26,400 liters of water a day.

o At least four hospitals have been exposed to the flood event.

o Three shelters have been exposed.

o An estimated 80 bridges have been swept away.

o Four districts of the country have suffered catastrophic damage.

· The NDRRMA reported that due to the Lhende River being obstructed in the coastal area approximately 18 kilometers above the Rasuwagadhi border, a lake covering about 0.11 square kilometers has formed:

o This has created another risk of a major flood.

o The NDRRMA advised that all concerned parties in the lower coastal areas are urged to exercise necessary caution and remain highly vigilant.

· The Nepal Red Cross Society has identified the following priority needs in the affected areas. They are:

o Shelter

o Water and sanitation

o Cash assistance

o First Aid

o Damage Assessment

· The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance on August 27^th has allocated $2 million from the UN Global Emergency Relief Fund. These funds will be used to ensure the delivery of urgent medical supplies, shelter, safe water and sanitation to affected communities
