Nationwide Highlights:
· The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported as of May 1st there have been 935 confirmed cases in 30 jurisdictions:
o 38% of the cases were children who were between five to 19 years old.
o 96% of the people infected were either unvaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status.
o 13% of cases required hospitalization.
· The Center for Outbreak Response Innovation published a risk assessment that judged the outbreak in the United States to be Scenario 4 as of April 25th:
o A scenario 4 is when here are more than three large outbreaks (50+ cases) or at least one extra-large outbreak (300+ cases).
o Risk to Unvaccinated: High
o Risk to Children: High
o Risk to Healthcare Workers: Low-Moderate
o Risk to the US General Population: Moderate
Texas Highlights:
· The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting there have been 683 cases:
o There has been an increase of 20 cases since the April 29 update.
o 89 of the patients have been hospitalized.
New Mexico Highlights:
· There have been 67 cases in the State:
o 61 of the cases have been in Lea County.
o Seven people have been hospitalized.
o 47 of the cases occurred because the person was unvaccinated.
· Vaccination clinics are scheduled until at least May 23rd.
· With the summer months approaching the State is concerned of more cases with an increase of visitors and community events.
Oklahoma and Kansas Highlights:
· The Oklahoma Department of Health is reporting there have been 16 cases (13 confirmed & 3 probable):
o 15 people were unvaccinated.
· The Kansas Division of Public Health is reporting there have been 46 cases in eight counties.
