Military and Diplomatic Highlights: Â
Â
Iran
·      The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on March 8th that they have killed Abu al-Qassem Baba’iyan, the new Head of the Military Office of the Supreme Leader and the Chief of Staff of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.
·      On March 8th, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that a U.S. service member passed away from injuries received during the Iranian regime’s initial attacks across the Middle East.
·      CENTCOM reported on March 9th that over 5,000 targets were attacked and over 50 naval ships have been either damaged or destroyed.

Lebanon
·      The IDF reported that over the past week, they have struck over 600 targets and killed over 190 terrorists.
·      The UN Interim Force in Lebanon on March 6th reported three peacekeepers were injured inside their base in Al Qawzah.
·      The IDF reported on March 8th that they have killed five senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force’s Lebanon Corps in Beirut.
·      During operations in the Dahieh area on March 8th, two IDF soldiers were injured.

Iranian Regional Attacks:
·      Between February 28 and March 8th, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO) has received 13 reports of incidents affecting vessels operating in and around the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman. 10 of these reports dealt with attacks on merchant vessels. Â
·      The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense (UKMOD) reported that following actions on March 9:
o  The UKMOD has continued to conduct sorties in defense of the United Arab Emirates.
o  Wildcat helicopters have arrived in Cyprus to support ongoing defensive operations.
o  A Typhoon destroyed an Iranian drone in defense of Jordan and also intercepted a drone heading for Bahrain.
·      The US Naval Institute reported on March 9th that the French government is deploying eight frigates and two amphibious assault ships to the Eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea.

Civil Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:

Evacuation of Foreign Nationals
·      A total of 23 EU member states have activated the Civil Protection Mechanism to evacuate citizens from the Middle East:
o  A total of 56 flights have been completed which evacuated over 4,400 people.

Israel
·      The Magen David Adom (MDA) treated one person on the Iranian missile attack in the Rishon LeZion area on March 8th.

Islamic Republic of Iran
·      On March 7th, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has begun deploying doctors alongside their relief and rescue teams. The goal is to increase the speed and quality of medical services.
·      The IRCS as of March 8th reported that 13,785 civilian structures have been targeted:
o  11,293 Residential Units.
o  2,383 Commercial Units.
·      The World Health Organization on March 9th, reported that damage to petroleum facilities risks contaminating food, water and air. Rain laden with oil has been reported falling in parts of the country.

Lebanon
·      The UN Refugee Agency reports that since March 2nd, hundreds of thousands of people have been fleeing Southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, and Beirut’s southern suburbs as Israeli evacuation orders were issued and airstrikes continue.
·      The World Food Programme (WFP) has assisted 200,000 displaced persons with food and cash assistance. A total of 17,000 displaced persons has received date bars at Syria crossings

Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights (Iran & Lebanon):
·      Since February 28th in Lebanon, WHO has reported the following:
o  At least nine healthcare workers have been killed and 16 injured
o  43 primary health care centers and five hospitals have closed due to IDF evacuation orders.
·      The IDF reported on March 8th that Iran fired a cluster bomb at the city of Rishon Lezion.
·      The IRCS reported on March 9th that US/Israeli air strikes reported the following:
o  A medical clinic was seriously damaged in Tehran.
o  65 schools were targeted and were seriously damaged.
·      The UN Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) reported that since February 28th several cultural heritage sites have been impacted or damaged, this includes:
o  Iran: Golestan Palace.
o  Israel: The White City of Tel-Aviv.
o  Lebanon: City of Tyre
