Military and Diplomatic Highlights:
· On March 1st, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that they have achieved air superiority over Tehran.
· IDF forces are focusing their attacks on the following types of targets:
o Ballistic missile launchers
o Headquarters facilities
o Air defense systems and command centers.
· On March 1st, IDF reported that they have attacked over 30 targets.
· The IDF has killed 17 members of the Iranian government. This includes the Supreme Leader. On March 2nd, they reported that they also killed:
o Sayed Yahya Hamidi, Deputy Minister of Intelligence for Israel Affairs.
o Jalal Pour Hossein, Head of the Espionage Division.
· Over 50 Iranian drones have been intercepted and destroyed by the IDF.
· U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on March 1st announced that US forces are prioritizing the following targets:
o Command and control centers
o Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Joint Headquarters
o IRGS Aerospace Forces Headquarters
o Integrated Air Defense Systems
o Ballistic Missile Sites
o Navy Ships
o Navy Subs
o Anti-Ship missile sites
o Military Communication Capabilities
· CENTCOM confirmed on March 1st, that Iran has launched attacks on the following targets:
o Dubai International Airport
o Kuwait International Airport
o Zayed International Airport (Dubai)
o Erbil International Airport (Iraq)
o Fairmont Palm Hotel (Dubai)
o Burj Al Arab Hotel (Dubai)
o Crowne Plaza Hotel (Bahrain)
o Port of Dubai
o Residential area of Era Views Towers (Bahrain)
o Residential areas in Qatar
· CENTCOM reported on March 1st that three F15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were shot down by the Kuwaiti air defenses in a friendly fire incident. All six US service members successfully ejected and are in stable condition.
· CENTCOM has destroyed 11 Iranian ships operating in the Gulf of Oman as of March 2nd.
· As of March 2nd, CENTCOM has confirmed that six US service members have been killed in action. US forces recovered the remains of two previously unaccounted for service members from a facility that was struck during Iran's initial attacks.
· The Institute for the Study of War provided the following analysis of the latest on this conflict:
o The US-Israeli combined force appears to be increasingly targeting the Iranian internal security apparatus, which is consistent with the US-Israeli stated objective of toppling the Iranian regime.
o The Iranian government has formed a leadership council to temporarily assume the responsibilities of the supreme leader. The council includes the president, the judiciary chief, and a senior hardline cleric.
o Iran may have started attacking maritime traffic around the Strait of Hormuz.
o Iran is increasingly targeting energy infrastructure in Gulf countries, likely to impose a cost on international markets to compel the United States and its partners to pursue a ceasefire before achieving their objective of toppling the regime.
Lebanon
· On March 2nd, Hezbollah launched missiles from Lebanon targeted parts of Northern Israel. In response the IDF targeted Hezbollah leadership, command and control centers and weapons storage sites in Beirut and Tyre.
· The IDF confirmed that they have killed Hussein Makled, the head of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters.
Cyprus
· An Iranian drone attacked the Royal Air Force Akrotiri base on March 2nd. Damage to the base was minimum and no personnel were injured.
· As a precaution, the United Kingdom is moving families who live on the base to alternative temporary accommodations on the island.
Civil Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:
Bahrain
· The Iranian military targeted and damaged the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manama. An unconfirmed number of people were injured.
Israel
The Magen David Adom (MDA) has reported the following updates between March 1-2:
· In the Jerusalem Region, MDA provided treatment to six people.
· Nine people were killed in Beit Shemesh. A total of 28 people were treated and transported to area hospitals.
· Treated and transported 15 people injured in a missile attack to area hospitals in Southern Israel.
Lebanon
· Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on March 2nd reported that hundreds of thousands of people have been fleeing their homes in Lebanon, following the Israeli bombings:
o MSF teams in country reported severe traffic congestion amid large waves of displacement.
· World Central Kitchen (WCK) has been serving meals to people fleeing communities in the south.
Islamic Republic of Iran
· As of March 2nd, the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has reported 555 fatalities throughout the country.
· The IRCS has mobilized its network of four million volunteers and 100,000 rapid responders:
o A total of 4,030 responders have been activated throughout the country.
o IRCS reported that relief operations in the affected area are continuing. This includes ongoing search and rescue missions.
· Approximately, 200 IRCS response teams were deployed to the attack on the school in Minab, Hormozgan Province.
· The UN Migration Agency (IOM) is reporting civilian displacements within Iran and throughout the region. The region already has more than 19 million people displaced:
o IOM is closely monitoring the situation and operational teams are ready to assist.
Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights:
· The IDF reported that the Iranian military directly targeted the civilian neighborhood of Beit Shemesh.
· On March 1st, the IRCS reported that either US or Israeli forces struck the IRCS Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center:
o This center provides specialized medical and rehabilitation services to patients and individuals with disabilities.
o The facility sustained serious damage.
· A medical ambulance in Tehran was also seriously damaged on March 1st by either US or Israeli forces.
· The World Health Organization is trying to confirm if the Gandi Hospital in Tehran was damaged by air strikes.
· The IRCS reported on March 2nd that US or Israeli forces injured three of their relief workers who were conducting relief and search and rescue operations.
· The US Naval Institute reported on March 2nd that a shipyard worker was killed and two others injured on the Iranian attack on a port in Bahrain:
o The MT Stena which is a US flagged tanker was also damaged.
