Military and Diplomatic Highlights:
Israel
· The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported on March 21st that a missile impacted near the city of Dimona. There was no reported damage to the nuclear research center located in the city.
Iran
· The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on March 18 and 20, killed the following individuals:
o Esmaeil Khatib, Minister of Intelligence.
o Mehdi Rastami Sh'mastan, Commander in the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence.
o Esmail Ahmadi, Head of the Intelligence Division of the Basij Force.
o Ali Mohammad Naini, Spokesperson and Head of the Public Relations Array of the IRGC.
· The IDF on March 19th targeted naval infrastructure in the Caspian Sea, the targets included:
o Naval vessels (missile ships, support vessels boats and guard ships).
o A port command center.
o Vessel repair and maintenance infrastructure.
· On March 22, the IDF targeted numerous security bodies and bases, this included:
o A military base used for training soldiers and storing missile systems.
o Weapons production and storage facility of the Ministry of Defense.
o IRGC Air Force weapons production site.
o Iranian Ministry of Intelligence headquarters.
o Emergency headquarters of the Internal Security Forces.
· As of March 24th, the IDF has carried out over 3,000 strikes throughout the country.
· U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on March 23rd reported that it has damaged or destroyed over 140 naval vessels.
· As of March 24th, CENTCOM has destroyed more than 9,000 military targets.
· The US Naval Institute reported that as of March 24th the USS Gerald R. Ford has arrived in Souda Bay for Repairs after a laundry room fire:
o Repairs are estimated to take more than a week to complete.
o More than 200 sailors were treated for smoke inhalation, with one sailor being medically evacuated, after being injured in the damage control effort. Two others were treated for lacerations.
· The IAEA confirmed on March 18th that a projectile destroyed a structure 350 meters from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Another projectile hit the premises of the plant on March 24th, no damage was reported.
· On March 21, Iran informed the IAEA that the Natanz nuclear site was attacked. However, there was no increase in off-site radiation levels reported.
Syria
· On March 20th, the IDF reported that Druze civilians were attacked by the Syrian military. In response the IDF struck a Syrian command center and weapons depot in southern Syria.
Lebanon
· On March 19th, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon announced that their mission has been ended by the UN Security Council. They will cease operations as of December 31st.
· The IDF reported on March 20th that they have continued targeting ground operations in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah:
o Over 2,000 targets (command posts, weapons storage facilities, and missile launchers) were struck.
o Over 570 Hezbollah terrorists were killed.
· On March 22 and 24, the IDF killed the following individuals:
o Abu Khalil Barji, Commander of the Special Forces in Hezbollah’s Radwan Force.
o Walid Muhammad Dib, Senior official in Hamas’ financial array in Lebanon.
o Muhammad Ali Kourani, Quds Force terrorist.
Regional Defense and Attacks:
· The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense (UKMOD) has reported the following activities between March 20-24:
o As of March 20th, 500 additional UK personnel has been deployed to Cyprus to support air defense activities.
o The UKMOD on March 21st supported the safe relocation of NATO Mission Iraq personnel to Europe.
o The HMS Dragon has arrived in the Eastern Mediterranean as of March 23rd.
o On March 24, British troops destroyed 14 kamikaze drones.
o Additional British Army Stormer air defense systems have arrived on Cyprus.
Civil Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Highlights:
Israel
· The Magen David Adom (MDA) has reported the following activities:
o In the Kiryat Shmona area, two people were treated and transported to area hospitals on March 19th.
o MDA reported on March 20th that missile attacks in Central Israel damaged a home and injured one person.
o On March 21st, the MDA treated and transported 64 people in the Arad area. Another 20 patients were also treated and transported to area hospitals in the Dimona area.
o The MDA on March 23rd treated and transported two people in Northern Israel to area hospitals.
o A missile attack on March 24th in the Bnei Brak area injured seven people. MDA provided treatment and transport to area hospitals.
Iran
· The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) reported on March 24th, that over 680 people have been rescued from under damaged or destroyed buildings throughout the country.
· The military escalation is resulting in cross-border movements and large-scale displacement, placing additional pressure on already vulnerable communities and increasing humanitarian needs.
· Displacements have spread across more than 20 provinces with possible occurrences of secondary displacement and additional needs for temporary accommodation.
· It has been estimated by the Iranian government that between 600,000 to one million households (around 3.2 million people) have been displaced as of March 12th:
o The government has opened public shelters and provided alternative accommodation for people wishing to leave urban areas or whose homes have been destroyed or damaged.
· Iran already hosts around 1.65 million refugees (mostly Afghans). Around 24,600 have returned to Afghanistan since February 28th.
· A total of 82,417 civilian buildings have been damaged by airstrikes throughout the country as of March 24th.
· Airstrikes on infrastructure, including a desalination plant and fuel depots, have disrupted some basic services and created serious public health and environmental risks.
Lebanon
· Displacement dynamics remain highly fluid and complex:
o Repeated and expanded displacement orders have covered significant portions of southern Lebanon, parts of Beirut, border villages, and the Bekaa. These orders are triggering multiple, secondary, and tertiary displacements.
o On March 17th, large-scale displacement orders in the Tyre district including Palestinian camps triggered significant population movements both within and beyond the district, including to already strained host communities.
· The World Health Organization (WHO) reported the following:
o On March 20th, 22 metric tons of life-saving medicines and emergency surgery supplies was reported in route via a land convoy from the Global Logistics Hub in Dubai.
o On March 23rd, WHO received life-saving trauma and emergency surgical supplies (for 1,000 trauma procedures for 500 patients). These supplies were delivered by the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge.
· Airstrikes have destroyed or damaged roads, crossings, bridges and other civilian infrastructure to include:
o Qasmieh bridge.
o Water pipelines between Marjaayoun, Blat, Dibbin, and surrounding areas.
o At least five fuel stations in the South.
Violations of International Humanitarian Law Highlights (Iran & Lebanon):
Cultural Heritage Protection:
· On March 17th the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) activated their emergency program to support cultural professionals and protect heritage in the affected countries. This included supporting the transfer and safe storage of artefacts from Lebanese archaeological sites to secure locations.
· The IDF reported on March 20th that missile fragments landed near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
Israel
· On March 18th MDA reported that a foreign worker was killed in Moshav Adanim.
Iran
· The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on March 17th reported that over 1,200 people have been killed and over 17,000 injured since the start of the conflict.
· On March 24th, the IRCS reported that a total of 281 hospitals, clinics and pharmacies have been targeted by Israeli and American forces.
Lebanon
· Over 1,000 people have been killed and 2,584 injured. The fatalities also include a humanitarian and a journalist.
· At least 31 healthcare workers have been killed as of March 2nd.
· At least five hospitals and 49 primary healthcare clinics are now offline.
