Highlights:
· The Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area remains the epicenter of violence and displacement in the country. Despite this, humanitarians remain present and continue to respond to the urgent needs of the population.
· Armed clashes on January 28-29 in the neighborhoods of Bas Peu de Chose and Morne à Turf, in Port-au-Prince, led to the displacement of 1,238 people (288 households), according to the UN Migration Agency (IOM):
o All of those displaced found refuge in six displacement sites.
o New sites were created in the neighborhoods of Lalue (now hosting 562 people) and Bourdon (482 people), while the remaining 194 people found refuge in four already-existing sites in the Bas Peu de Chose neighborhood.
· The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported on January 16th, that 4.2 million people need urgent medical care.
· As of February 7th, the UN Central Emergency Relief Fund, the Canadian government, the World Food Programme (WFP) and partner organizations are supporting over 2,600 displaced children across eight sites in Port-au-Prince through mobile nutrition clinics.
· Between January 25-31, the WFP distributed $1.6 million in cash transfers, which enabled vulnerable populations to meet their basic needs.
· The WFP urgently needs $3.9 million as of February 7th to maintain the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS). In 2024, UNHAS transported more than 11,700 passengers for more than 150 partners.
